Acer Aspire Education E100 Netbook

Acer, the world's third-largest PC manufacturer, is starting a push into the computer assisted education market, with the first product in its student-oriented offer being the Acer Aspire E100, a 10.1-inch netbook based on Intel's very popular Pine Trail platform.

Pitted against Intel's own Classmate PC, Acer's solution weights just about 1kg and is 24mm thick so as to be easily carried in a backpack, it includes a label pocket, and features a rubberized coating that provides extra shock resistance.

Spec wise, the E100 comes with an Atom processor, 1GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB hard drive, an LED-backlit display (1024 x 600 native resolution), 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, a multi-card reader, a CrystalEye webcam for video chatting and a battery enabling up to 8 hours of operation per charge.

The new Aspire model offers two OS (operating system) options - Windows 7 for ultimate familiarity and software support, and Android for a more mobile-focused experience, and comes with multiple education apps (Acer Classroom Manager, Fourier MultiLab Lite) pre-installed. Moreover, the netbook is backed by a three-year warranty (1-year warranty is standard for most Atom-based systems) to give parents some extra peace of mind.
